Kelly Petronis
Bio:
Hello! My name is Kelly, and I enjoy meeting new people. Last year I received an M.A. in linguistics from The University of Georgia, where I was also an instructor. I've worn many different hats and traveled to many countries in my lifetime, but lately I've been working on opening a comedy theater.
My teaching methodology:
- Most of each lesson will be structured as a meaningful conversation between me and the student, with some engaging resources (a video, article, joke, meme, cartoon, etc.) as a starting point for discussion.
- Part of each lesson can include more structured consciousness-raising exercises, readings, or written responses which I will design to focus on grammatical accuracy and correction.
My teaching background:
I've been teaching for 10+ years. I have taught in the University of Georgia English department and have substitute-taught in elementary schools and middle schools. I have tutored college students, business executives, and kindergarteners alike. Also, I teach improv comedy to silly, brave adults.
My background outside of teaching:
In my other life I am a comedian, filmmaker, and community organizer. I direct a grassroots comedy organization where I produce, perform, and teach standup and improv comedy.
