Bio:
I am Tutor Douglas, an English teacher from Los Angeles currently living in Mexico City. I teach English in-person in Mexico City and online through language learning applications. I keep my classroom student focused, keeping you speaking and actively using the language. I make the class fun and engaging using activities and presentations that I have designed.
My teaching methodology:
My teaching background:
I have been a teacher for 5 years, working as both an art professor in California colleges and an English teacher at both a language school and in private settings. Through my experience, I have developed the ability to clearly understand your goals and skills, and to design lessons that assist you in meeting them. I have taught English through Leer Mexico Read, a language school in Mexico City. It was here that I began working with absolute beginners, those who spoke very few or no words of English. Through patience, a student-focused classroom, and engaging lessons, I have helped many students attain a basic level of English proficiency. Additionally, I have taught English privately as a tutor, working with students of all levels in private sessions and on language learning apps. Here I developed my own materials specifically designed for online learning and private tutoring. I also learned how to create a fun classroom environment that keeps you actively engaged in discussions.
My background outside of teaching:
I grew up near Los Angeles, California, and I have always had an interest in art and exploration. I would describe myself as curious, open, and adventurous. I prefer a life on the road rather than one settled in a single place. I attended the University of Notre Dame and studied Finance and Studio Art. It was during my time there that I solidified my interest in art and aspired to pursue it further. In addition, I pursued two master's degrees in art, one of which was obtained from the San Francisco Art Institute. I am an enthusiastic traveler and have visited 13 countries, with a particular focus on Latin America. Recently, I have begun traveling on my motorcycle, allowing me to fully appreciate the various sights, sounds, and people I encounter along the way. I have a passion for drawing and engage in it daily. I view it as a visual diary, a form of meditation, and a study of perception. Additionally, I create artwork using light.
