Bio:
I am from a small—but very cool—English city called Newcastle upon Tyne, and I am extremely passionate about learning and sharing languages. I try to make this enjoyable and laid-back while helping you to improve and achieve your language learning goals. I am interested in philosophy, psychology, history, culture, and Mandarin Chinese. Using this foreign language to study, work, and socialise has been incredibly rewarding, so I would love to help you work on your foreign language too!
My teaching methodology:
- Teach in a friendly and conversational style.
- Give you a lot of time to practise speaking.
- Offer useful sentences, vocabulary, and corrections during the class.
- Listen carefully and help you improve your pronunciation.
- Leave time for questions and reviewing what we have learned.
- 如果你是中文母語者,也歡迎使用中文來提問喔!
My teaching background:
Since 2016, I have been involved with foreign language education in quite a few different roles. I have designed and taught various online courses, and I have also offered private tutoring tailored to students' learning preferences and goals. Previous students, from a range of countries, have included beginners, intermediate learners, and fluent speakers, and they have been of various different age groups, including teenagers, young adults, and older adults. As a teacher, I have met a lot of really cool people and learned so much about other places, and it has been an incredible experience to be a part of so many students' language learning journeys.
My background outside of teaching:
Outside of foreign language education, I have experience in data science, text-based translation and real-time interpretation (Mandarin Chinese and English), and administration. After growing up in the United Kingdom, I travelled extensively before spending over seven years in Taiwan, where I reached full professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and studied psychology and data analysis at National Taiwan University. In the future, I would like to use my second language—Mandarin Chinese—to explore Chinese philosophy and history.
