Bio:
Hello, I’m Mr. Oliver! I’m a young, open-minded teacher passionate about educational, social, and positive psychology. Inspired by Stephen Krashen’s theory of comprehensible input, I focus on immersion and real communication—helping you practice speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension in meaningful contexts. My lessons are fun, supportive, and full of energy, designed to build confidence and connection through language.
My teaching methodology:
My teaching methods involve subconscious immersion into the language and habitual practice. My philosophy is simple: if you want to get good at speaking: speak. If you want to get good at writing: write. Language is an acquirement through comprehensible communication. I like to play games such as hot potato, pictionary, spelling games, guess who, and more. I like to use activities such as gap fills and creative writing to get students to express themselves as much as possible in a comfortable, confident, and fun way. Most importantly I find language learning must be fun for it to be effective. So my main aim and goal is to have a good professional connection with my students to have fun and enjoy activities. While language is a subconscious thing we acquire, it is useful to have conscious assessments to evaluate the abilities of the student. This is done by spelling tests and comprehension. Together we will also formulate a plan to get you learning English as much as possible.
My teaching background:
My educational career all started in Paris where I became passionate to go into education and use my studies in psychology and philosophy for educational purposes. My teaching background includes private online and in-person tutoring in Paris, as well as working as an English teacher in a private, tri-lingual, primary school. I also have experience with leading fun English language workshops.
My background outside of teaching:
I am an international British and German citizen, growing up in Berlin to English parents, and living there most of my life. I currently live in Paris, and I used to live in London. I completed my higher education in the UK, specializing in philosophy, sociology, and psychology. I have always been passionate about learning about the human condition, and varieties of individual experiences. My focus is in the humanities. More specifically I have been interested in how people learn, and how people can use language functionally to meet their needs and reach their goals. I am an international person who loves languages and exploring the different intelligence of people, and how they can use intelligence to creative beautiful and useful things. I speak English, German, and French. My favourite football team is Manchester United F.C. I am a big fan of good films like the Lord of the Rings, Rocky, and Fight Club. I love to read and write, and I love to do sports.
