Bio:
My name is Ekky and I am from the UK. I have a Master's degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London. I have worked in various sectors such as not for profit and the college/University as well as teaching. I have secret tips on how to improve your score after my time as an IELTS examiner so I use that to help students understand what an examiner is looking for. Students learn best when they're relaxed so I keep it informative and fun.
My teaching methodology:
- General mindmaps template will be introduced to help students retain knowledge for the most common IELTS topics. This will focus on key vocabulary, idioms, advantages and disadvantages, famous places and people, future developments and related topics.
- Corrections on grammar and pronunciation
- Adding new vocabulary with explanations
My teaching background:
I have 5 years of offline/online teaching experience in Latin America, Africa and Asia. TEFL qualified for 10 years. I prefer to teach adults and teenagers who are at least 15 and over. (I no longer teach kids) For IELTS speaking lessons, I focus on structure as that is the foundation in order to speak clearly. I only offer intensive IELTS lessons over a short period (1 week-month) where we focus on your weakness and ensure that you improve your score by at least .5 by the end of the course. I have taught many IELTS students online to achieving their score I let my students decide what style of lesson they want and then adapt accordingly. My strengths lie with vocabulary and idioms so I do my best to type the meanings and example sentences as best as possible so I can expand the range of my students. I will soft correct after the student has finished talking so I do not interrupt them so that they understand where the grammar/pronunciation error was.
My background outside of teaching:
I have a Master's degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London. I am a world traveller so I've been to 60+ countries and I hope to get to 100 countries one day. I've lived in Rwanda, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nepal (because of Covid), Turkey, Indonesia. With this experience, I understand the difficulties of non-native English speakers of moving to different countries and I speak in a much clearer and slower manner to help my students to improve.
