The course will start with an overview of the structure of the IELTS, a discussion of your current preparations, and a checklist of the task types.  We will then look at the text for the first reading task, and follow an action plan for how to pre-read and locate the specific information requested. We will focus on how to identify the argument of a reading passage.  This will involve writing notes and spoken responses from you.  

Then we will move to the first listening task, when we will cover spelling (that is, English phonics), numbers, dates, and measurements as well as the skills of understanding and predicting specific info.  We will practice your ability to take dictation – writing what you hear.   Next we will cover the first speaking task. To prepare, you will write 1-2 sentence answers to a series of questions. 

After practicing that conversation, we will move to the first writing task, which involves writing about a chart or graph.  We will discuss different charts and graphs and you will take notes describing different aspects of each.  You will produce two practice pieces for this task.  

We will then look at the next reading tasks, for which you will practice reading aloud, scanning for needed information, and completing a written summary.  

Next will come the remaining listening and reading tasks. In between we will discuss and you will pre-write to prepare for the second writing task, before you draft. The course will end with the final speaking task.
