Bio:

Hi! I'm Joann, an American English teacher. I've taught English in South Korea, Poland, and online to all ages and nationalities since 2010. My lessons are highly conversational. If you want writing help, I can correct your documents and help you understand the corrections. I believe making mistakes is important to learn a language. Make many English mistakes in my classes and see your English skills--and confidence--improve! También estoy aquí para ayudarte hablar español, como inglés.

My teaching methodology:
  • Lots and lots of conversation
  • YouTube videos
  • Articles (you choose or I choose)
  • Audio clips or podcasts
  • Assignments designed for your specific needs.
My teaching background:

In South Korea, 6 years [Language Academy (ages 5 - 75): 2 years, Elementary Schools: 4 years, Middle and High Schools: 1 year]. In Poland, 1 year [Language Academy (ages 10 - 80)]. Online, 3+ years [1-to-1, adults and teens].

My background outside of teaching:

I have worked and traveled overseas for 7 years. I love learning about other cultures, languages, and countries' histories. When I taught English in Korea and Poland, I learned a little Korean and Polish to understand my students' difficulties with English. Then, I would use their languages to help my students understand English in a way they never had. I proofread, so I read a lot and make many corrections. Mistakes don't scare me; I expect them. ;) As a language learner, I understand the struggles and have learned to be adaptable. I always tell my students they can easily make friends with people from other non-English speaking countries. How? Say, "English is crazy" and everyone will agree! ;)
